HMV is the UK’s last remaining national music retailer. If you were given a HMV gift card over Christmas and haven’t had chance to use it, you now probably wished you had. The UK retailer has entered administration, with the risk of over 230 stores closing and over 4,500 jobs been lost. The news comes only days after Jessops, the UKs largest camera store, shut with over 1300 jobs been lost.

HMV boss: “We remain convinced we can find a successful business outcome,” Trevor Moore told journalists. “The intention is to continue to trade the stores.”

Disappointing Christmas trading has also been blamed for the company entering administration. The company confirmed that it would not be accepting or issuing gift cards.
