Sony Vegas Movie Studio HD Platinum 11 Review

With a glut of movie editing software now available on the market today, competition has been increasing and prices have been coming down, making the decision on which software to buy so much harder.

Today we are reviewing the Sony Vegas Movie Studio HD Platinum 11, Sonys latest foray into a market it currently holds a lot of influence over.

The Sony Vegas Movie Studio HD Platinum is the latest in this highly successful series.  The bundle includes Vegas Movie Studio 11, Sound Forge Audio Studio 10 and Vegas Movie Studio HD Platinum 11.

New to this series are stereoscopic 3D editing, which allows you to edit your 3D videos as easily as you would edit your 2D videos, 3D monitoring which allows you to monitor your 3D effects either via a 3D monitor or on your 2D monitor using an effect mode, comprehensive file support, improved rendering, GPU-rendered AVC encoding for computers with Nvidia or ATI graphic cards and more efficient dialogs for new projects, rendering and making movies.

During our trial, we discovered a Titles and Text editor, which allowed 24 new animations, however we found it to be slightly ungainly. We could insert them via a dropdown menu, but getting them to calibrate correctly took a little bit of effort.

The GPU coding was intuitive, and although we did not time it, it certainly seemed faster than the process used when doing the same projects on the previous version.

We also discovered that with the Sony Vegas Movie Studio HD Platinum 11, you can create Blu-Ray compliant movies easily and the technology allows you to render for both the right and left eyes instead of rendering using a split-screen.

Other smaller improvements include an improved ‘Render As’ box, and the ability to apply effects for individual audio objects.

For those people running a 64 bit platform, the Sony Vegas Movie Studio HD Platinum 11 is currently only produced in a 32 bit version, so you if you wish to purchase it, you will have to run it in 32 bit mode. This is not an issue, although it would be nice to be able to take full advantage of the hardware.

Overall, for the price, you get the full studio and a far more comprehensive program than what the competition is currently offering. We highly recommend this product.
